Flood Control

A variety of flood control works are in place throughout the City of Timmins. They help to manage high flows where the risk of flooding is the greatest.

Areas included are:

  • Mattagami River
  • Mountjoy River
  • Porcupine River
  • Kraft Creek
  • Town Creek
  • Crawford Creek
  • Mountjoy Creek
  • Porcupine Lake
  • Bob’s Lake

We built small control dams, widened and straightened several sections of creek channel and purchased large blocks of flood hazard lands. The Conservation Authority also has a regular maintenance program to ensure all watercourses are free of any obstructions including beaver dams, log jams and siltation.

In addition to the above measures, the MRCA controls development in flood-prone areas to reduce the potential of property damage.
