MRCA watershed management includes flooding and erosion protection along with water quality and quantity monitoring for the Upper Mattagami River watershed.

Are you planning development work near a watershed, river, stream, wetland, slope, or shoreline?
You may require a permit from the Conservation Authority.

The Mattagami Region Conservation Authority provides a variety of recreational opportunities throughout the City of Timmins through its system of Conservation Areas and Community Trails.

Gillies Lake Conservation Area Improvements: Throughout the summer, maintenance work will be taking place on the Gillies Lake trail and boardwalk including culvert and bridge replacements. Please use caution, respect all posted signs and avoid the area while work is taking place.

On March 10, 2026, the Province of Ontario announced the next steps in the consolidation of 36 Conservation Authorities into 9 Regional Conservation Authorities.
During the upcoming transitional period, the MRCA will continue to operate without disruption and continue to work toward our mission of leading the conservation and protection of the Mattagami Watershed. We remain committed to watershed protection at the local level.
