A variety of flood control works, both engineered and natural, are in place throughout the City of Timmins. They help to manage high flows where the risk of flooding is the greatest.
Areas included are:
- Mattagami River
- Mountjoy River
- Porcupine River
- Kraft Creek
- Town Creek
- Crawford Creek
- Mountjoy Creek
- Porcupine Lake
- Bob’s Lake
Flood management includes the use of control dams, the widening and straightening of creek channels, and Conservation Authority ownership of blocks of flood hazard lands.
In addition to the above measures, the MRCA controls development in flood-prone areas to reduce the potential of property damage.
